There are many reasons why the functions of one or more chakras can be compromised; overwork, stress, emotional pressures and all kinds of psychological hurts are some of the probable causes. This meditation is a gentle way to help relieve tension and regain inner equilibrium. The heart chakra connects the three lower and higher chakras and has the power to restore balance between them. This meditation is 45 minutes long and is done in five stages. The movements represent unification of the four directions (North, East, West, South), and the four elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air). These movements can create harmony between the body and soul.
Stand in a relaxed position with eyes open. Lay both hands on the heart chakra placing the right hand over the left. Feel the rhythm of your heartbeat and breathe in a relaxed fashion. Feel the fresh energy streaming in. The cycle of giving and taking begins by breathing out the old used energy.
1st Phase: 7 minutes MOVEMENT “NORTH”
a) Before the music starts listen carefully to the breathing sound examples. Move in rhythm with the music. The inner side of the hand should face outwards – a symbol of pushing away the old out of the body. Exhale with the sound “choo” and at the same time extend the right arm and the right leg forward.
Do not move your core position forward. Try to remain on the same spot, rooted to the ground.
When breathing in, return the arm and leg to the basic start position, laying both hands again on the heart chakra. Remain in this position for a moment and relax.
b) With the next exhalation make the same movement with the left arm and the left leg. The speed of inhalation and exhalation follows the rhythm of the music. At the end of each phase, the music gets progressively faster. Each phase ends with the gentle sound of a bell, so you will know when to move on to the next phase.
2nd Phase: 7 minutes MOVEMENT “EAST + WEST”
a) Again, listen to the initial four counts of breathing. Now, with the hands again starting on the heart chakra, repeat the same rhythm of inhalation and exhalation, and
instead of stretching forward you begin stretching sideways in a 90 degree turn. First stretch your right arm and right leg to the right. Then, b) with next exhalation do the same, but this time to the left. End this sequence by returning to the basic position after you hear the bell indicating the time to move to the next phase.
3rd Phase: 7 minutes MOVEMENT "SOUTH"
Phase 3 in principle is like phase 1 and 2, only in this case, turn the body a 180 degree turn behind you. First extend the right arm and leg back as far as possible while the left leg remains on the floor as it was in the basic position, and the left arm on the heart chakra. Then return to the basic position while breathing in. Repeat the procedure with the left hand and leg extending back while exhaling. (Keep the right foot on the floor and the right hand on the heart chakra).
4th Phase: 7 minutes “CIRCULAR” MOVEMENT
In this phase, all three phases that have been previously made one at a time now come together in a flowing sequence, and here
is where we reach the high point of our energizing meditation.
5th Phase: 15 minutes SILENCE
Sit or lie down. Keep your eyes closed, and be still. The music will continue for another 7 minutes. After that, continue to relax in total silence by either stopping the CD or continue to enjoy the sounds of Tibetan sound bowls.
